Flooding can have major impacts on rural communities, cutting-off communities and seriously affecting people’s lives. With the growing scale of flooding in the UK there is a need to develop strategies for coping with the increasing incidence of flooding events. Climate Outreach has worked in collaboration with the University of Exeter, Devon County Council, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, the Environment Agency and Crediton Town Council to develop a more effective way for communities to become resilient to environmental hazards.
This project examines the potential of social learning- involving academics, community members and local agencies to create wider understanding of the flood risks associated with a changing climate. The programme is working to develop a community flood resilience plan that will represent the knowledge of all involved parties.
