Getting people pumped about heat pumps

Heat pumps are an important part of the clean energy picture in the UK. But only about 1% of UK homes have a heat pump today. The Climate Change Committee says this needs to be nearly 10% of all homes by 2030 – just five years from now.

This short guide shares insight from our recent Britain Talks Climate update on what people think about heat pumps, and explores how we can encourage more people to get one.

Watch the launch webinar for this guide:

This webinar explores:

  • What different people think and feel about heat pumps now, how that’s changing and what’s left to do.
  • The most important things that communications needs to get right, and how – and how the government can help.
  • How to make heat pumps a great story for everyone – not just the wealthy or very eco-conscious.

Speakers:

  • David Powell, Climate Outreach – intro to polling and focus groups on heat pumps – what we know about where people are.
  • Richard Hauxwell-Baldwin, MCS Foundation – exploring deeper engagement challenges around home energy, and how policy and communications can help.
  • Katy King, NESTA – innovative ways to inspire people to try a heat pump, and how to make the process feel easier and more exciting.
  • Helen Ball, Broadacres Housing Association – heat pumps and social housing – how to engage residents, and what others can learn from their energy efficiency projects.
